SUNDAY August 26, 2018 - 1:30pm to 2:45pm
Description/Abstract of your Event:
The event panel will address a very simple question: Should Donald Trump, the 45th president, be impeached for what the Constitution terms high crimes and misdemeanors? To help answer that question, the panel will explore the nature and history of impeachment from the earliest days of the republic through Nixon (who resigned in the face of impeachment before he was formally impeached) through Clinton. We’ll concentrate specifically on the issue of whether progressives should support calls to impeach Trump, or whether they would be better served to focus on discrete political issues and winning elections. Bill Blum will present a PowerPoint that will cover the history and substance of impeachment. Kevin Mack will explain the Steyer group’s approach to impeachment, and discuss how the group interacts with other political organizations, particularly those on the left. Sharon Kyle will offer additional political and legal perspectives, including those of the ACLU.
