Marie-Claire Picher is a Theater of the Oppressed trainer and popular educator who worked and collaborated closely with Augusto Boal, founder of the Theater of the Oppressed, until his death in 2009. She is a founding member of the New York City-based Theater of the Oppressed Laboratory (TOPLAB) (1990) ( and the Institute of Popular Education at the Brecht Forum (1992), and was the Executive Director of the Brecht Forum/New York Marxist School for four years (1989-93). She has presented thousands of hours of training workshops in New York and throughout the United States as well as in Cuba; Guatemala; Mexico City; and in the Mexican State of Chiapas in autonomous Zapatista communities. She is also Associate Professor Emerita of French at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York.
