Marija Krtolica holds BFA in dance from Tisch School of the Arts, NYU; MFA in choreography from UC Davis, and MA in Performance Studies from NYU. She successfully defended her PhD in dance at Temple University in April 2018. Marija is a choreographer, practitioner of dance improvisation, and a certified teacher of yoga. Marija has been making dance-theater work since 1990s. Recently, she has shown her work in NYC (30x30 Creative Performances at Dixon Place), Somerville (Third Life Studio showing organized by Kelley Donovan and Dancers), Brooklyn (Performance of Subjective Disorganization, Just Situations at Grace Exhibition Space), and in collaboration with Ab Uno Pluribus (NYU Waverly Labs). In the past ,she has presented work at venues in NYC, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Boulder, Detroit, and Davis , and internationally in her native Belgrade. In 2015, she presented “Theoritization of Symptom”- a two-part lecture/performance at the Chancellor's Lecture Hall, University of the Arts in Belgrade. In 2016,she presented "Hysteria, Image,and Body:'Convulsive Beauty'” in Auzits at the LeCouveNt Artistic Residency. Marija has engaged in the scholarly work on the unconscious, hysteria, surrealism and critical ideas emerging from Tanztheater. She presented papers at Approaching Dance Conference CUNY, Nineteenth Century Caucus in Charleston, Cologne Symposium on Choreography and Imagination etc. Recently , she presented “Space of Asylum: Delirium and Scene” at 39th Annual Conference of the Nineteenth Century Studies Association Vistas (Philadelphia).
